Description	Edited by Gillian Pugh. Published by The National Children's Bureau. The book was a joint initiative between the National Children's Bureau, the Department of Education and Science (DES), and the Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS). It was decided in 1979 to bring together a group of people interested in preparation for parenthood to discuss what action could be taken to improve standards of parenting in the UK. The group sought to gather sources already written on the topic and highlight the major issues for a conference. The book brought together the work of the group.
