Description | 10 letters exchanged by Cyril Burt and John White between November 1970 and January 1971. The correspondence ranges over a number of issues, including the definition of giftedness, its connection with general intelligence and the areas which it covers; the IQ borderline seleted for giftedness; the type of special provision for gifted children; and the rights and wrongs of a selective school system. The main thread, however, relates to the nature-nurture debate on the nature of general intelligence as measured by IQ tests, and whether Burt is correct in his claim that there are upper limits to one's intelligence and whether this is scientifically testable.
Includes transcripts of all the letters and a general introduction by John White. |
