TitleNew Horizon School Camps
Date1962-1977
Description'New Horizon' was an associated group of Forest School Camps, from which it derived most of its ethics. Started by Swiss-born Eric Gander in the 1960s, New Horizon was also affiliated to Adventure Unlimited from which it derived benefits such as cheap transport facilities. It was not a political or religious organisation. The object of New Horizon was to 'broaden one's outlook socially and geographically and to provide experiences and holidays for boys and girls from 12 to 18 years of age' (1962). It aimed to meet 'often and all throughout the seasons of the year' (1998) and drew its members from all over the country. Though it no longer exists, there has been a yearly reunion since the death of Eric in 2003.
