Title | 'Samuel Pepys History Trail' |
Date | 1975-1976, 1991 |
Description | Papers regarding a walk created by Gene Adams in 1975 to take children from the National Portrait Gallery to Samuel Pepys' own church in the City of London. The trail was published by ILEA and sold by the NPG. A year later Adams persuaded the National Portrait Gallery to carry out a summer project on the same theme and worked with the children in an improvised art room. Selected pieces of the children's work were published by the Bethnal Green Institute of Adult Education for the Gallery with very little acknowledgement of Gene Adams or ILEA. The NPG also later published an abridged version of the Pepys walk. In 1991 Adams revived the walk for members of the Friends of Geffrye Museum. Includes copy of the walk published by ILEA; booklet 'Samuel Pepys' London, a project for children at the National Portrait Gallery'; correspondence regarding the 1975-1976 projects; copy of the revised 1991 trail and related correspondence; and black and white photographs of children on the trail in 1975. |
