Description | Memorandum and four photographs relating to the case of Roger Tichborne. Tichborne was the heir to his family's fortune, but disappeared in a shipwreck in 1854. In 1866 a claimant came forward alleging that he was Tichborne and fought a number of court cases to prove his identity. His claim was ultimately dismissed. This item includes a set of three photographs of Tichborne as he was last known, a photograph of the claimant, and a composite photograph of the two. Also includes another photograph of the claimant and a printed memorandum from a group of photographers asserting that Tichborne and the claimant were the same man. |
