AdminHistoryBorn in Kovno, 1854; emigrated to Jerusalem, 1869; educated at the Ets Hayim Yeshivah; took part in the founding of the Maskilim Circle and the Moses Montefiore Library, 1873-1874; lost his sight, 1877-1879; printed and published 'Jerusalem: Yearbook for the Diffusion of an Accurate Knowledge of Ancient and Modern Palestine', 1882-1918, Lu'ah Erets Yisra'el, 1895-1915 and a number of books in improved editions with his own notes; editor of ha-Ikar, 1894-1896; founded the Educational Centre for the Blind, 1902; active member of the Va'ad ha-Lashon ha-'Ivrit (Committee for the Hebrew Language); died 1918. Publications include: 'Ivri Anokhi' (1874); 'Netivot Tsiyon vi-Yerushalayim' (1876); 'Die juedischen Kolonien Palaestinas' (1902) and articles in 'ha-Havatselet'.
