| AdminHistory | Anglo-Jewish lawyer, bibliophile, collector, and author; son of Chief Rabbi Nathan Marcus Adler; visited Egypt in 1888 and 1895-96 and brought back approximately 25,000 fragments from the Cairo Genizah. Publications include: 'About Hebrew Manuscripts' (1905); 'Jews in Many Lands' (1905); 'Auto de F and Jew' (1908); 'A Gazetteer of Hebrew Printing' (1917); 'History of the Jews of London' (1930); 'Jewish Travellers' (1930); and articles on the Samaritans and on the Egyptian and Persian Jews; played an active role in English-Jewish communal affairs, especially as regards educational and overseas matters, and was an early member of the Hovevei Zion in England. |
