AdminHistoryBorn in Jutrosin, son of Rabbi Falk Friedlaender and his wife Leah Benzian, 1833; PhD; educated at the University of Berlin; private tutor and Director of the Talmud School at Berlin, 1862-c1865; Principal of Jews' College, London, 1865-1907; married Bertha Benzian; took an active part in the communal and cultural life of Anglo-Jewry; his knowledge of mathematics and astronomy made him an expert on the Jewish calendar; died 1910. Moses Gaster was his son-in-law. Publications include: a German translation (with commentary) of the Song of Songs (1867); an edition of Abraham Ibn Ezra's commentary on Isaiah (1873-1877); 'Jewish Family Bible' (1881); a translation into English (with annotations) of Maimonides' Guide of the Perplexed (1881-1885); 'Jewish Religion' (1891); 'Textbook of the Jewish Religion' (1891).
