AdminHistoryHayim Hirshenzon (Chayim Hirschensohn), born Safed, 1857, second son of Jacob Mordecai Hirschensohn, rabbi and yeshivah administrator, and Sarah Bayla; moved to Jerusalem 1864; married Hava (Eve) Sarah, daugher of Rabbi Shaul Binyamin ha-Cohen, 1875; editor and publisher, 'Ha-Misderonah', 1885-1889; publisher of Yiddish paper 'Bet Ya'akov', 1892-1893; one of the founders of the Safah Berurah (Plain Language) society in Jerusalem; moved to Constantinople, where he became principal of two Jewish schools, 1901; attended the Zionist Congress in Basel, 1903; Rabbi of of the Orthodox synagogues of Hoboken, New Jersey, 1904-1935; died Hoboken, 1935. Publications include: 'Ateret Hakhamim' (1874); 'Yamim mi-Kedem' (1908); 'Malki ba-Kodesh' (1919-28).
