AdminHistoryThe first Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue in Manchester was founded by immigrants from North Africa, Turkey and the Levant in 1874; an increase in numbers and movement away from the neighborhood of the synagogue led to the erection of a second synagogue in the suburb of Withington in 1904. A few years later the two congregations united in one governing body. In c1999 the Withington Congregation merged with Sha'are Sedek Synagogue to form the Sephardi Congregation of South Manchester (Sha'are Hayim Synagogue).
