TitleSofer, J: Micrography portrait of Gaster
Date19 Jun 1905
DescriptionA micrography portrait of Gaster, based on a photograph of him used in a poster produced by 'The Jewish World' (see GASTER/1/C/18). The writing in the micrography is made up of English and Hebrew, and the text appears to be from the biblical book of Psalms. The artist is given in English as J. Sofer, Paris, with a brief handwritten dedication to Gaster in French. The artist's first name is given in full in the Hebrew: Yitsḥaḳ / יצחק ('Isaac' in English). He is likely to have spelled using German phonetics, Jitzchak, in which the 'J' is pronounced as an English 'Y'.

This micrography portrait was also produced as a postcard, see correspondence of Attia/Attias, Salomon Jedidia, enclosure.
