Title'Proclamation of the Chief Rabbis in the Land of Israel' in promotion of the Golden Book
DateMay 1930
DescriptionProclamation letter from the Chief Rabbis in Jerusalem calling for Jews internationally to sign up for the Golden Book of the KKL - JNF, which was done by donating a specific amount of money to the KKL (in 1902 this amount was 10 pounds). The goal of this specific proclamation was to generate 5000 signatures to acquire a plot of land in memory of Lord Arthur Balfour to show the nation's appreciation for his political efforts and giving his name to the Balfour Decleration. The rabbis in the proclamation call upon heads of synagogues and study houses to promote this effort in their communities. The names of the rabbis who signed this proclamation are: Abraham Isaac Ha'Cohen Kook; Solomon Ha'Cohen Ahronsohn; Jacob Meir S'T (Sfaradi Tahor: pure Sephardi's who trace their ancestry to pre-the Spanish inquisition); and Ben Zion Meir Chai Uziel. The proclamation is dated to the Jewish month and year which aligned with May 1930.
