AdminHistory | In 1903 the licensed boarding house was administered by Miss O'Donoghue at Newnham House, Heigham Grove, but this was replaced by 1908 by 85 Newmarket Road run by Miss Greene and Miss French. By 1911, Misses Greene and French had moved to 4 The Grove, Chapelfield. From 1915 to the 1920s, Miss Hodgeson ran Chester House on Chester Place. Also around this period Mrs David Coutts opened a short lived boarding house at 495 Unthank Road. By 1919 there was a second boarding house called School House at 113 Newmarket Road. By 1925, three boarding houses served the school, Chester House; Miss Frazer's 'Collingwood' at 129 Newmarket Road; and Mrs Noverre's at No. 4 The Crescent. By 1929 Miss Fraser's house had fallen out of use and Mrs Noverre had moved to 24 Unthank Road. By 1933 Chester House had fallen out of use and Mrs Noverre administered Roselands on Albemarle Road, and continued to do so until the late 1930s. By 1942 the sole boarding house was Town Close Lodge under Mrs Arnold, which was closed by the end of World War Two. |
