Description | Correspondence regarding Clapham High School, which has been retained in the folders in which it was arranged by the Trust as follows: 1) Early correspondence, 1909-1932, including correspondence with the Board of Education regarding the status of the school, inspection, grant for advanced course in maths and science, and the possible removal of the school. 2) letters regarding attempts to save the school and its final closure, 1931-1938, including a map showing the residences of pupils, 1931; draft of a letter to the London County Council regarding the future of the Trust's London schools; letters regarding the possible procedure for amalgamating Clapham with Streatham Hill; suggestions to close Clapham and retain the training college; closure of the art department; attempts to get financial help from the London County Council for all the south London schools; letter from Miss Jarrett, head mistress of Clapham announcing her regret for the closure of the school; the Trust's response to objections to the closure. 3) letters against the closure of the school, 1937-1938 4) Letters regarding Miss Jarrett, including her acceptance of the head mistress post at Streatham Hill, 1937-1938. |
