TitleArmand and Chick families
Date1708-1752
Extent12 documents
AdminHistoryThe Armand family, of London, were silkweavers of Huguenot origin. The Chick family were also silkweavers, but apparently English, since the name appears in the registers of Canterbury parish churches but not in those of the Walloon Church in Canterbury. The families are related through the marriage in 1745 of Ann, daughter of John Chick of Canterbury, to Philippe Armand of Stepney, who in 1750 became a Freeman of the City of Canterbury by his marriage (see 'Roll of Freemen of Canterbury', printed 1903, p. 99).
