Extent1 volume
AdminHistoryThe Lagier Lamotte family originated in La Motte Chalançon in Dauphiné. Claude Lagier, called La Motte, was admitted as a citizen of Geneva on 11 December 1694. The records relate to him, his son Jean or John Lagier Lamotte (naturalized in England 1733) and his grandson of the same name. The latter's daughter Mary La Motte married in 1795 Charles Abbott, who became Lord Chief Justice and was in 1827 created the first Baron Tenterden.
CustodialHistoryThe records were evidently inherited by the third Lord Tenterden (1834-1882), who was Permanent Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs. They were acquired later by I I Howard, Maltravers Herald, whose name is on the fly-leaf.
