TitleMadelaine Elam, née Vardon
Date22 Apr 1834
DescriptionMadelaine Elam, a 70 year old widow, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. Her father, Nicholas Vardon, was originally from Caen, in Normandy and passed away whilst being a resident at the French Hospital. Madelaine attended the Westminster French Protestant School and after completing her studies there, she taught in a girls school, the name of which is not given. She also worked as a carer for the sick and for women about to give birth. Madelaine is now too unwell to keep working and does not have any family or friends who can assist her. The petition bears Madelaine Elam's mark and is signed Pierre Fontaneau, Jean Bernard, Louis Bonnet, Minister of the French Church of Threadneedle Street.
