DescriptionCharles and Thomas Fearne, request that their mother Anne be admitted to the Hospital. Anne is 54 years old and is the daughter of John Bouhault, Master of Languages, and a native of Niort, in Poitou. He came to England as a refugee and resided there for most of his life. Anne married Charles Fearne about 34 years ago and only a few years after the wedding she begun suffering from a mental illness, probably depression. She is described as being 'insane'. Her husband died three years previously and her sons cannot look after her. Pinned to the petition is a certificate in French, from Dr J N Jacquin confirming Anne's condition, dated 9 October 1770. The petition, in English and undated, is signed by F A Pillissier, Secretary of the French Church of La Patente.
