TitleJohn Levesque's petition
Date2 Jul 1845
DescriptionJohn Levesque, a 64 year old widower, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. He was born on 1 April 1781. His parents were John Levesque and Sarah De la Cluse. Both his parents are of Huguenot descent and his father's ancestors were Daniel and Laure Levesque who 'fulfilled an appointment in the French Chapel'' and worked as brewers. John is also a brewer but can no longer work due to ill health. The petition is signed by John Levesque himself and George Holden.
At the back, a note from the petitioner states that his uncle, Peter Levesque, had been an organist at St Andrews Enfield, Middlesex, for over fifty years, up to his death in 1822. The latter had informed him that his own father had been a Minister at the French Church of London. John Levesque's second cousin, Peter Levesque, had been Master of the St Brides Workhouse Vestry Clerk between 1800 and 1820. The petitioner claims to be related to the families Michell and Vernall, both silkweavers in Spitalfields. He explains that his parents had told him that their families were originally from Bolbec, in Normandy and had escaped to England in c. 1680-1685.
Petition n. 1253.
