TitleOrders for admission
Date1770-1786
DescriptionPrinted orders to the Steward for admission of individual inmates, each signed by three Directors. Numbered on back, but numbers 424-490 have been mis-numbered 324-390. A few of the forms have brief notes added (addresses, names of sponsors, or that admission is to the 'petites maisons' for mental cases). Used as a backer for the file is a coloured MS playing card, rather crudely painted.
No. 41 is not a printed form, but a MS petition for admission, dated 3 May 1771, on behalf of Francis Hector Royrand, aged 54, 'né a Londres, fils de Marc Antoine Royrand, natif de la paroisse de St Fulgent en bas Poitou, refugié pour cause de religion ... en une grande détresse, ayant été frapé d'une paralysie ... qu'il lui oté la vue et la parole, tant tout fait immobile, seul et sans gouvernement ...'. A footnote adds that the applicant lodges with William Goodall, in Three Fox Court, Long Lane, West Smithfield. Signed by Jacob Bourdillon, pasteur, Samuel Tavan, pasteur, Marie Anne Royrand de la Roussière (who adds: 'il est mon cousin germain') and L de la Chaumette, junior. Endorsed is a request to admit the applicant in place of Pierre Bonneau, deceased, signed by Paul Turquand, Treasurer, and Pierre Merzeau and P Gallot, Officers, of the Société de Poitou.
