TitleRegister of 'Deeds'
Date1830-1869
DescriptionCourt minutes of 7 July 1827 and 3 July 1830 show that the opening of a new register was proposed in 1827 and that it had been provided, as a gift from the Secretary, by 1830. It begins with transcripts of the first three documents in H/E/5/1, including the Charter, plus the 1736 lease of the Pest House from the Corporation of London. The next entry is of a declaration of trust relating to the bequest of James Dulamon of Southampton, 1761. From this point the book becomes a register of leases granted by the Hospital. The need for such a record followed the letting, from 1801, of accommodation formerly used for lunatics (the 'petites maisons') and the grant of a private Act of Parliament in 1808, to enable the Hospital to lease the Hospital garden land for building. (See Charles F A Marmoy, 'More pages from the history of the French Hospital' in the Proceedings of the Huguenot Society, vol. XXII, pp. 235-247).
Nos. 6-39: A lease agreement, 1801 and a lease of 1803 are followed by a (MS) copy of the Act of 1808 (pp. 30-33); copies of 29 leases and agreements to lease, dated from 1810 to 1820, of land and houses in Galway Street, Radnor Street, etc., St Luke's parish, with small plans (ink or ink and water-colour); and two releases from forfeiture of lease for breach of covenants, 1831 and 1835.
pp. 230-251: Conveyance, 31 August 1841, by William Sharpe of 41 Bedford Row, Middlesex, to Richard Williment of Norwich, manufacturer, to the use of David Columbine and others as trustees for the property of the French Church (formerly Little St Mary's), Norwich, in pursuance of a scheme of the Court of Chancery, 1839. The Norwich congregation being 'dispersed', the Chancery Decree created a charitable trust to provide for (i) the maintenance of the church fabric in Norwich, (ii) £50 per annum for apprenticeships in Norwich; the balance of income to go to the French Hospital in London in return for two nominations of inmates. The deed recites the title of the church and other property in Norwich and Norfolk, with information on the history of the French congregation there.
pp. 252-257: Nominations of new trustees, to fill vacancies caused by death or resignation, for the French Church (Norwich) Charity, 3 July 1869.
