| Description | The membership register starts with 43 members surviving in 1762. From 1764 to 1800, 81 names are added. Many, up to about 1780, are marked with the date of death or reason for cancellation of membership. After some blank pages the revised Rules follow, in copper-plate handwriting, with a title-page (mutilated) in fine MS 'print'. This styles the Society 'La Société de la Province de Haute et Basse Normandie' and as the date when this volume was begun is evidently 1762, the existence of another 'Société de Haute et Basse Normandie' from 1764 rather suggests a splinter group. The preface to the Rules, in fact, refers to the need to 'déterminer les différences qui pourroient arriver entre les membres de notre Socité'. |
