AdminHistory | The terms of the reference of the committee were to develop the short term policy established by the sub-committee on library policy. Reporting in 1950 it advised on the short and long term policy that was required after the establishment of the Area Training Organisation in 1949. The short term policy was to ensure the library's special collections and periodicals were made available to the constituent colleges and departments; that the library should be built up in 'certain directions', a travelling library service be established; and that Teachers of the Institute be allowed to sign their own application forms to use the library. In the longer term the committee advised the Academic Board generally on the library policy of the Institute in regards to the whole Area Training Organisation. Once the ATO was abolished the committee continued, but with no grant. In the summer of 1978 the future of the committee was considered, and although a meeting for November 1978 was planned there are no minutes.
From 1975 the committee's role was to advise the Academic Board on the provision of a supplementary library services where a college itself was unable to provide costly or rarely used material; and the provision of material needed in connection with courses for practicing teachers. |
