Description | Malcolm Lilly's correspondence and papers regarding the Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS). Includes invitations to serve on the Board, Research and Scientific Strategy Committee, Strategic Review Group, thanks for service, and letter of resignation.
In July 1988 Lilly was invited on behalf of the Secretary of State for the Department of Health and Social Security to serve as a member of the Public Health Laboratory Service Board. In 1993 the PHLS Board established a Research and Scientific Strategy Committee (RSSC) to be responsible for developing its R&D policy and broad strategy and for setting up a mechanism for the assessment of R&D at the project level. Lilly was invited to join this new Committee and serve as a member of a small Strategic Review Group under an independent Chairman.
Lilly's initial appointment to the Board was for three years from 1 August 1998. This was renewed for a further three years to 31 July 1994. After that date he continued as a member of the RSSC until 1998 when he resigned for health reasons. |
