Description | 69 black and white photographs of various schools in the UK. On the back of each photograph is the sentence 'Maclure, School Building and the Development of Education, 1984,' along with the name of the school, the number and figure corresponding to the book, the date, and, a description of the picture, for example 'children at work in Eveline Lowe nursery and primary school, 1968'; 'school without walls, Eastergate Church of England primary school, West Sussex, 1971'; Kidbrooke School in Greenwich is described as London's first 'Purpose built comprehensive', the photograph of St. Crispin's School features 'ceiling and wall decorations by Oliver Cox; and, one photograph is an 'aerial view of St. Crispin's secondary modern school, Wokingham, Berkshire, 1955'. The photographs were used by Longman's for Maclure's book 'School Building and the Development of Education', with which the negatives in 523 seem to correspond. The focus of the pictures is wide ranging and includes all aspects of school design from roofs and classrooms to drama studios and dining areas. Each picture is numbered and has a piece of tracing paper attached to the front with the dimensions marked on a cover of tracing paper. |
