| Description | The collection contains correspondence, papers and reports regarding talks, articles, books, chapters and research projects which Miriam David worked on. Some of the research projects represented in the collection include ESRC projects on 'Students choice of HE' (1998) 'Children's 5-16 programme - children's understanding of parallel involvement in Education' (1997 - 1998), Leverhulme project (and accompanying book) 'Parental choice project'. There are papers and correspondence of a number of organisations including Women's Studies Network UK, Through the Glass Ceiling, Parents in Education Research Network (PERN), SREPAR (Sex and Relationship Education). Also includes correspondence with a number of publishing companies regarding books and chapters written by Miriam David. |
| AdminHistory | Miriam David is Professor of Sociology of Education here at the Institute of Education in the Faculty of Policy and Society. She was, Associate Director (Higher Education) of the ESRC's Teaching & Learning Research Programme (2004-2009) based at IOE. A Professor for over 20 years - London South Bank (1988-97); University of the Arts (1997-9) and Keele University (1999 – 2005) where she remains a visiting professor. She has a world class reputation for her research on gender, families, social diversity and inequalities in education, including lifelong learning and higher education. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences and was awarded an honorary degree of doctor of education by the University of Bedfordshire (2009). She was chair of the Council of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) from 2005-2009, a member of the UK Economic & Social Research Council's Research Grants Board (2006-9) and is on the Governing Council of Society for Research in Higher Education (SRHE). |
