TitleBible [Fragments]
DateMid 9th Century
DescriptionTwo fragments, together comprising most of a whole leaf, from a manuscript Bible, parchment. Main body text in two columns in a Caroline minuscule in brown ink with red 2-line initial capitals. The text is written in a scriptura continua and has been dated to the second quarter of the 9th century, probably originating in France, with good examples of punctuation common at the time. The leaf has been cut in half horizontally, resulting in two fragments of approximately equal size. The leaf was cut vertically down the left-hand side and a small amount of text is missing from column A recto/column B verso.
The top fragment is headed "Prophetae" on the recto and "Lib[er] Hierimiae" on the verso. The text begins from Jeremiah 7:28 and continues across the recto of both fragments, ending at Jeremiah 9:10 on fragment 2.
The text continues on the verso with Jeremiah 9:10 ending at Jeremiah 11:2.
There is a faint annotation in the margin of fragment 2 recto, perpendicular to the main text. It is in a later hand, possibly 15th century(?) and begins "Pater noster qui..."
