| Description | Manuscript of the Hebrew text of Psalm 78 according to the numbering of the Septuagint (LXX). This is equivalent to Psalm 79 in the Hebrew Bible (and in most modern Protestant English translations). The Hebrew text features a few minor mistakes, mostly the absence of dagesh, or the absence or presence of a mater lectionis differing from the Masoretic text. At the end of verse 10, the writer incorrectly uses a ק instead of a ך.
There are two Latin translations of the psalm: the first is the text of the Vulgate (iuxta Septuaginta), while the second is a different Latin translation of the LXX. Differences between the two Latin translations are underlined in pencil.
A Greek commentary, by an English commentator, follows, using the Greek text of the LXX. The commentary is annotated in the margins by a potentially different hand with cross references to other Biblical passages, from both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament.
A pasted-in label on the verso of the front free endpaper reads: 78 Biblia. - Psalm LXXVIII, written in Hebrew and in two Latin versions, with a commentary in Greek, extending to no less than five pages, folio, £1 1s, cent. XVI. Written by an English commentator. A fine specimen of Greek script written in England in the later years of the sixteenth century. |
