Description | Correspondence between the NUWT, the Board of Education, the Ministry of Health, Local Education Committees, and the Association of Education Committees regarding issues arising from the evacuation of teachers and children. The correspondence covers: Confirmation of allowance of up to one week's paid leave for evacuated teachers from London to return and deal with bomb damage to their homes Request from the NUWT to the Board of Education to publicist the important role of women teachers in the war effort in continuing to educate young people Enquiry regarding what constitutes War Service for women teachers with regards to Superannuation Confirmation that full-time nursing service by women teachers during the war will course as war service in respect to Superannuation Activities and services for young people between 14 and 20 who are not in full-time education and establishment of a National Youth Committee by the Board of Education Questions to the Ministry of Health regarding the Government Evacuation Scheme - issues of concern included billeting allowances, holiday leave and travel subsidies Concerns from NUWT members about the billeting arrangements for evacuated children NUWT General Secretary's Report with sections on food rationing and evacuation of children and school teachers NUWT request to the Board of Education, the Ministry of Health and various Members of Parliament that schools be cleared of all use by Civil Defence Services, that education should be compulsory and that adequate air-raid shelters are necessary in all schools Use of schools for Reception and Civil Defence purposes Concerns over the safety (due to high military activity or targets in the area) of some of the areas which evacuated children are sent to Accommodation allowances and the decision of the Board of Education not to issue these to married women teachers unless it can be proven her husband is dependent on her - includes many letters from NUWT members stating their cases
