Description | Correspondence between Ethel Froud and A. Muriel Pierotti (NUWT), NUWT branch members including Helen Dedman and Florence Key, various Local County Councils, the Ministry of Health, and the Association of Education Committees regarding Air Raid Precautions (ARP) and the proposed use of schools for first-aid and decontamination centres. The NUWT policy was that if hostilities started then the priority for teachers was that the education of children should not be interrupted. In a circular sent to the Home Office and other individuals and organisations they stated that the use of educational buildings as First Aid stations should not be permitted. The correspondence covers: Air Raid Precautions Evacuation of schools School holidays for evacuated children and teachers Requests for advice on NUWT policy and individual involvement Reports from NUWT members of the implementation of evacuation and billeting of school children in their districts and schools NUWT concerns over the responsibility places on teachers with regards to fire precautions in schools Outline from various County Council's of their implementation of ARP, with some giving particular reference to the 'fire precautions' section of the Government issued order on fire defence Reports from NUWT members of the implementation of Government orders on fire precuations in schools and teacher's involvement in this Fire watching in schools Request to members that in the event of receiving instructions from their Local Authority with regards to ARP then they should contact NUWT Headquarters immediately Women's Voluntary Services for ARP and involvement of women's organisations in ARP Enquiry regarding the legal position of a teacher is they refused to take part in gas mask drills in schools, 1938 'Analysis of replies to questionnaire on Air Raid Precautions Typed copies of the responses from various Local Education Authorities to Government ARP proposals NUWT request for representation on an ADvisory Committee set on for the evacuation of school children NUWT Circular 'Educate the Children', sent to Editor's of newspapers Reports of problems with the billeting scheme - summarised in NUWT Central Council reports NUWT circular urging for the return of evacuated children from the east and south-east coasts as they do not feel these areas are safer or provide adequate facilities
