Description | This is a mixture of bound volumes and individual issues of a monthly (occasionally bi-monthly or longer) magazine produced by the Woodcraft Folk. The title is 'Helper' but within the magazines it is usually referred to as 'the Helper'. Underneath the title it explains that it is published in conjunction with the Socialist Educational International.
'Volume 1': No.1, Vol.1 December 1935 - No.12, Vol.1 January 1937 (complete run). 'Volume 2': No.1, Vol.2 February 1937 - No. 12, Vol.2 February 1938 (complete run). 'Volume 3': No.1, Vol.3 March 1938 - No. 12, Vol.3 March 1939 (complete run). 'Volume 4': No. 1, Vol.4 April 1939 - No. 12, Vol.5 Feb/March 1942 (complete run). Volume of 'New Series': Vol 1, Nos 1-10, April 1947 - March 1948 (complete run).
In addition to these bound compilations, there are also loose individual copies of 'The Helper' running from December 1935 to February 1954. The loose copies form a near-complete run, with few editions missing from the sequence. The loose copies duplicate the material in the bound volumes, but for some periods we only have the loose copies.
This material also includes a 'Souvenir Programme' booklet from the Woodcraft Folk International Children's Camp, Debden, Essex, 1951. |
