TitleRedbridge, Chigwell Transit School
Date1948
DescriptionTwo photographs of a basic school hall. One shows the roof and ceiling lights, the other specialist children's chairs and desks. A commentary on the reverse explains that the 'Transit' schools were based on the idea of 'wartime transit camps', and were built to cater for the children living on many new estates being built in Essex. It claims that the schools'incorporate many new features of construction, and are a real solution to the important problem of providing educational facilities until the pupils are able to pass on to permanent schools'. The Chigwell Transit School was built under the supervision of Mr H Connolly, FRIBA.
