Description139 photographs documenting the conditions of an old school in need of refurbishment. Includes a wide range of images of what is possibly a Victorian school building. The following features are covered; exterior; corridors; classrooms; floorboards; toilets; science laboratories; roof; playing fields; gymnasium; library; out door lavatories; stairwells; area undergoing new construction; storage; lockers and locker room; dining hall; study areas; and extension [c1950]. There are a small number of photographs of female students participating in various activities such as tennis; gymnastics; orchestra; a cookery lesson; science lesson using microscopes; and reading in the library.
On the reverse of one a statement reads 'Remodelling Old Schools, Greenhead High School for Girls, Huddersfield. Britain's old and out of date schools are to be either replaced or modernised and brought up to a standard comparable with a new school. The Ministry of Education's latest Building Bulletin (No. 21), Remodelling Old schools, offers local education authorities and their architects practical suggestions for tackling projects of this type. Picture shows improved lighting conditions in prototype classroom.'
