Description | Two typescripts bound in paper covers, copies of the letters of Sutton Sharpe (1756-1806) to his wife Maria, nee Rogers. The originals were written in 1802 from France "whither he had gone with many artists and others, after the Peace of Amiens, to see the Art treasures Napoleon had collected in Paris". Letters dated 3rd-26th September 1802. Inscriptions on the first pages of both typescripts indicate that one copy was given to E S Pearson by his aunts Mary Catherine Sharpe and Loetitia Sharpe, and the other was given to Sigrid Loetitia Sharpe Pearson, February 1924. |
