Description | Substantial parts of this diary record Fry's feelings and thoughts on the First World War, stories she has heard about the conditions of soldiers, developments regarding territory and battles. Many early entries mention Ypres. Another topic much discussed is the political situation in Ireland. The diary was kept during the period Fry ran a farm school, so many entries describe aspects of this educational farm environment, physical labour, weather, and the affect of the War on their lives.
