Sep 1 Failand Fry went to Goldney House - Uncle Lewis was dying; Fry discusses death in depth with Milly and Elsie whose ideas on an afterlife Fry does not necessarily agree with and mentions 'Xtian' [Christian] scientists; Eliot-Howards and Mrs Frank Tuckett to lunch; cousin Eliot talked to Fry about his position as a JP, and his thoughts relating to Fry's father's work as a JP; cousin Charlotte told story about need for ladybirds in Canada; Fry mentions her enjoyment in spending time with family/Quakers in particular with regards to intelligent conversation; mentions Maeve [Avice Trench's sister]
Sep 2 no news of Maeve, Avice's mother does not like telegrams so Fry cannot contact Avice; Fry has been thinking about the 'new doctrine of hope & confidence & courage' which she feels issomething to do with the new generation, and is a 'zeitgeist', Fry sees this as a good thing, and talks of her 'beloved's' courage and unselfishness as a 'glowing light'; Fry feels inadequate in her conduct
Sep 3 Stratford-on-Avon discusses performance of Anthony and Cleopatra seen the previous evening, this makes Fry ruminate on passionate love, and the pain of being away from herlove, 'divorced from her when she has to go thro' such anguish'
Sep 5 Mayortorne Fry receives no better news of Maeve, Fry is distressed by the distance between her and 'A' [Avice] which she describes as 'absolutley poisonous'; mentions Stephen Lockhart [pupil]; concern for the well which looked like it was giving out, a calf dead, and the drought
Sep 6 'M.T.' [Maeve Trench] is better; drought continues; Fry talks of 'Many difficult & critical interviews' then writes in French, possibly about an argument with a loved one
Sep 8 very long day for Fry; supped at Miss Barker's cottage (which in Fry's opinion should belong to a working man, Fry discusses a disturbance in the equilibrium with regards to this); Fry talks about Miss Barker and the things they discussed
Sep 9 Fry talks about having the water pump lowered; and the possibility of complete water loss
Sep 12 Boar's Hill Fry reports rain of previous day; talked to Dr Adams re his pigs and teaching of economics in schools
Sep 13 returned to Mayortorne; Fry did some tidying and burned some letters she found that she wrote to 'CM' due to the pain they brought back
Sep 15 Fry unhappy about the unemployment situation, considering cooperative farming
