TitleCollins, Frederick Howard to Francis Galton
DateJan-Feb 1897
DescriptionLetters from Collins to Galton, regarding the proposed experimental farm for breeding.
Collins contacts Galton having been advised of Galton's plans by Herbert Spencer and Adam Sedgwick [letters enclosed]. Collins informs Galton of his letter to Nature proposing the establishment of such an institution [Collins, "Heredity, and the Effects of Use and Disuse", Nature, Vol 41 No. 1068, (17 April 1890), p 559], suggests other scientists who may be interested, and proposes that the farm be situated near a body of water to allow aquatic experiments to be conducted, or contiguous to an existing institution.
Later letters discuss the similarity between Collins' views and those of Herbert Spencer, possible experiments, and the experience of Mason farm; Collins advises that Galton start with a small facility and proceed from there.
