| Description | Fifty-one bundles of fingerprint cards, known as "the 6,000-set" (actually consists of 5,651 cards). These fingerprints were probably taken from visitors to the Anthropometric Laboratory in Kensington. There is one card per person, each with the finger and thumb prints of both hands, most annotated with the name of the individual, a reference number assigned to them, and their occupation. Also annotated with the classification of the fingerprints according to Galton's system of identification. It is believed that the "300-set" (see GALTON/2/9/6/11/2) were selected from an original set of 6,000 cards, of which these are the remainder.
Many cards have had notches punched from the top edge, probably made using the stencil. The positions of the notches indicate duplicates, etc. |
