AdminHistoryAbraham Mocatta, born London, son of Abraham Mocatta, bullion broker and stockbroker, and his wife Grace, 1831; married his cousin, Grace Mendes da Costa, 1857, at which time he was a merchant; later a leading stockbroker; Vice-President of the Elders of the Spanish and Portuguese Congregation, and its representative on the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the Board of Shechita and the Council of Jews' College; a leading amateur chess player, he was Champion, President, and later Vice-President of the London Chess Club; member of Lauderdale Road Synagogue; died 1900. His daughter Leah was born in 1866 and married Anghel Gaster in 1897.
