DescriptionInvitation card for the Inauguration of a new Synagogue in Lisbon, 'Synagoga Portugeza Shaare Tikva'. The outer card includes 3 detailed illustration of the Synagogue: the main facade, a cross section view of the interior, and longitudinal cut. Each illustration is in a different scale per meter. The fourth page of the outer card features a list of 'gentalman' who would be 'offering mortar to cover the cavity where the duplicate of the minutes will be placed'. This event was to take place, with a Choir accompaniment, on the 20th of May 1902. The list of 'Senhor' includes the President of the congregation, Leao Amzalak, two Secretaries (Cardoso and Azulay), and the Treasurer Salomon de M. Sequerra. The inner card includes an invitation to the laying of the Synagogue's corner stone 'on the land located in the extension of the Rue Alexandre Herculano, and belonging to Colonia Israelita de Lisboa. This solemn act will be celebrated there (D.V.) on the day of the Hillulah [death anniversary] of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, 18th of Iyar 5662 - 25th of May 1902 at 2:30 in the afternoon.' The other side of the card includes the order of the Ceremony, which includes prayer services; Blessing the King and the Royal Family; Reading the minutes; Placing the Duplicate of the minutes in the concavity of the cornerstone; and 'Offering the spoon to the Honorable Mr. Abraham. E. Levy.' Inside of the inner card: on one side a floor plan of the Synagogue and on the other side a list of the Comite [committee] Israelita de Lisboa, including 'ladies' who constituted the committee in charge of raising funds for the construction of the Synagogue and 'gentelmen' in the committee in charge of building the Synagogue.
