| Description | Brochure for a 'Concert and Conversazione' to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the consecration of the 'Gates of Prayer' Synagogue, Manchester Congregation of Spanish & Portuguese Jews. The event took place at Cheetham Town Hall, Manchester on Monday evening, May 8th, 1899. The front of the brochure lists the vocalists 'Miss Rebecca Jacobson, Miss Tessa Myers, Miss Esther Valentine,' the solo violinsit 'Monsieur Speelman,' and accompanist and conductor 'Mr. George H. Sykes' as well as the 25th anniversary committee members and the 'Hon. Secs.: Ezra Altaras, Marco S. Levy.' The inside of the brochure includes the concert programme, an address by 'Rev. Haham Dr M. Gaster' which was transcribed from a phonograph recording, and collection of letters addressed to Gaster relating to the event. The back of the brochure lists the subjects of portraits which were part of the 'exhibition of portraits of past officers & other workers.' |
