AdminHistoryBorn Melbourne, son of Isaac David Belisha, merchant and industrialist, 1853; came with his parents to Manchester at age of 6; assisted his father in founding the Spanish and Portuguese Congregation in Manchester and became a member of the Mahamad; devoted much of his time and money to Jewish causes, especially for the Jews of Russia; committee member, Manchester Branch of the Anglo-Jewish Association; founded the Manchester Branch of Hovevei Zion; member of the Jewish Territorial Organisation; worked for the establishment of a Jewish Parliament, but this plan was never realised; Vice-President and committee member, Manchester Shechita Board; founder, Manchester Naturalisation Society; shareholder in the Manchester Ship Canal; member, Manchester Geographical Society, Manchester Amateur Photographic Society, Anglo-French Association; died in 1906, just before his nephew's bar mitzvah.
