AdminHistoryFounded in Piccadilly, London, in 1904 by Constance Smedley and a group of friends who were members of the Writers Club; membership was open to women who had published an original work in literature, journalism, science or music, who had university qualifications, or were the wives or daughters of distinguished men; its first Chairman was Lady Frances Balfour; it had a library, art gallery, book gallery and accommodation; it held monthly concerts and a weekly dinnner.
