AdminHistoryAdolph Tuck, born Germany, son of Raphael Tuck, art publisher, and his wife Ernestine Lissner, 1854; the family moved to London before 1866; educated at the Jews' Free School and the Elizabeth Gymnasium, Breslau; entered his father's art business in London, 1869; under Adolph's supervision, the firm began producing Christmas cards, 1871; became Managing Director of Raphael Tuck and Sons on his father's retirement in 1881; married Jeanetta Flatau, 1882; two sons, three daughters; often credited with introducing the picture postcard into England, 1894; baronet, 1910; Extraordinary Director, Scottish Equitable Life Assurance Society; President of the Association of Publishers of Christmas Cards and Calendars; President of the Association of Publishers of Picture Postcards; Warden, Central Synagogue; Treasurer, Jews' College; President, Jewish Blind Society; council member, Anglo-Jewish Association; member of the committee founded in 1917 to further the policies of the Balfour Declaration; died 1926.
