TitleAdmission Registers

DescriptionSeries of admission registers for Kensington High School. Before 1902 the pupils were listed in a large volume which recorded name, date of admission, name and occupation of parent or guardian, address, previous schools, date of birth, progress through school, and reason for leaving (GDS/13/11/4/1). Though the school continued to record pupil numbers in a similar volume until 1934 (GDS/13/11/4/2), from 1902 the school began to number each new pupil in two other volumes until 1941. It appears each pupil was entered into a series of large volumes at the time they entered the school, (GDS/13/11/4/3-8). These volumes allocated one page to each pupil which was set out into a table which recorded name of the pupil; name of parent or guardian, postal address, date of birth, date of admission, date of leaving, their position in the school in admission and leaving, terms they attended the school, place of residence, occupation of father (or mother), places of previous education, particulars of exemptions from tuition fees, exams and certificates attained, scholarship attained, place of further education, occupation taken after leaving, and any remarks. While they attended the school details of their progress at the school was kept on a form, reflecting the tables in the hardback volumes, in a ring binder (GDS/13/11/4/9). When they left the school the form was taken from the ring binder and all the information was transferred to the large volume. There are no hardback volumes after 1924, and all the records seem to have been retained in the ring binders up to 1948, (GDS/13/11/4/10-13). This subseries also contains a pupil register (GDS/13/11/4/14), 1924-1945, which appears to originate from the main series of pupil registers kept centrally by the Trust and records the same information as the first admission register.
