AdminHistory | Collins was educated at Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, University of London and University of Paris. He was Senior Modern Language Master at Tottenham County School, 1919-1925; Head of Modern Side, Manchester Grammar School, 1925-1928; Headmaster of Chichester High School for Boys, 1928-1934; HM Inspector for Schools from 1934; Staff Inspector of Modern Languages from 1945. He was also Director of the British Committee for the Interchange of Teachers between the United Kingdom and the United States of America, 1955-1960. He visited France and USA several times on educational visits. He was awarded Doctorate of Strasbourg University, 1956; Legion d'Honneur, 1956.
Member of the Council of the Girls' Public Day School Trust, 1954-1966; Deputy-Chair of the Council, 1961-1964; Chairman of the Council, 1964-1965, and Vice-President, 1965-1967. He was also Chairman of the Friends of the GPDST, 1964-1965 and was a member of the Education and Sites and Buildings Committees and Inspections Sub-Committee. He was also the 'godfather' of Portsmouth High School. |
