AdminHistoryNorthcote was born 3 Jan 1850 and was the third son of the Earl of Iddesleigh. He was educated at Eton and King's College, London. He was originally a engineer in Manchester and then moved to Armstrong's works in Newcastle. He was ordained in 1878 and was appointed curate at St Margaret's Church, Westminster. He married Hilda Farrar and moved to Upton Pyne parish in Devon in 1881. He returned to London in 1889 as the Vicar of St Andrew's Church in Westminster. He was also honorary secretary to the London Diocesan Church Schools Association from 1897 and was the Chairman of the Greycoats Hospital Schools. He was also elected a member of the Higher Education Committee of the London County Council. His wife died in 1908 and his two eldest sons were killed in action during World War I. At the time of his death he was Prebendary of Oxgate in St. Paul's Cathedral.

He was also a member of the Council of the Girls' Public Day School Company/Trust, 1898-1920 and Chairman, 1910-1920.
