AdminHistory | Georgina Grenfell Walrond was born in 1869. She was Educated at Notting Hill High School, 1885-1888, and Girton College, Cambridge. In 1892 she married William Hepburn Buckler of Baltimore. Maryland, USA. For the next 16 years she was engaged in social work in Baltimore and travelled with her husband who was in the United States Foreign Service. In 1914 she helped found the inquiry department for the wounded and missing of the Red Cross and Order of St John, for which she was appointed CBE in 1918. In her 50s she turned to Byzantine Studies and published several texts on the subject. She died in 1953.
She was a member of the Girls' Public Day School Trust Council, 1912-1937 and Chair of the Education Committee for the majority of the time. |
