AdminHistory | a. Remit of the Policy and Research Committee
i. Save in relation to those matters that are reserved to Council, the Policy and Research Committee is concerned with all matters relating to the Council's Advisory functions under section 2 of the Act and related matters.
ii. The Policy and Research Committee is responsible for developing the overarching policy and research strategy of the Council, including the strategy for formal advice, the research and intelligence base, the development of professional networks and policy services.
iii. The Committee may establish Policy Working Groups of Members to assist in specified policy development activity in partnership with external partners and experts as appropriate, and set the terms for their work.
b. Delegations to the Policy and Research Committee i) The Committee will oversee the policy and research strategy of the Council and will ensure that the Council has a sound and up-to-date evidence base for its policy making and provide a strategic steer to the programme of research and intelligence gathering with teachers and stakeholders, making use of comparative evidence from other professions and other countries where relevant and practicable.
ii. Save in relation to those matters that are reserved to Council, the Committee will formulate the Council's policy and advice in respect of the following policy matters in section 2 of the Act:
2. the standards of teaching 3. the role of the teaching profession 4. the training, career development and performance management of teachers 5. recruitment to the teaching profession 6. the supply of teachers 7. the retention of teachers within the teaching profession 8. the standing of the teaching profession 9. other matters relating to teaching
iii. Save in relation to those matters that are reserved to Council, the Committee is delegated to develop advice and formally respond, on behalf of Council, to any requests for advice made by the Secretary of State.
iv. Save in relation to those matters that are reserved to Council, the Committee is delegated to develop advice and formally respond, on behalf of Council, to any consultations or other ongoing policy interventions.
v. The Committee shall develop the Council's policy and advice in respect of such other matters relating to teaching as appears to the Committee to be necessary or as the Council may from time to time decide.
