| Description | Copy of a letter from Haldane to R I James of John Lewis & Co Ltd in response to a request for Haldane to give a talk. Haldane replied that he would be willing to do the talk, but in lieu of a fee he asked that the women workers in his lab should be given a pair of stockings each, as their long working hours made it difficult for them to obtain these rationed items. It is likely that the talk would have been given at the John Lewis Partnership College, which was established in 1945 and run by R I James and his wife. |
